WWE vs UFC

World wrestling entertainment is largest professional wrestling company in the world reaching 13 million viewers in the US. The show is broadcasted in 30 different languages across more than 145 countries. And it has two shows raw and smackdown.

Ultimate Fighting Championship is largest professional mixed martial arts company in the world. It has most of the top ranked fighters in the sport. There are 8 divisions for the fighters divided according to their weight. UFC has many class heavyweight fighters too.

I tried to compare both of these giants, by considering few aspects.

Well, where to start?

1)Number of people watching---> WWE is a worldwide show. It is telecasted in more than 145 countries. It has the longest running television show in history RAW (which recently completed its 1000th show). These all just proves how vast the stretch of WWE is. It is more focused on entertaining..they try to work on stories between wrestlers and try to attract fans in different way.

WHILE UFC is not as big as WWE ..It is not telecasted in such a huge manner..here the events are fight-centered. Its real fighting..thus it attracts mostly fight fans..but they hype created before the matches is great..it's so unbearable that you cannot wait. But the good thing for UFC is it’s growing and growing fast.

2) Revenue —>  Revenue of WWE is said to be around 500 million a year(in 2011), whereas UFC revenue is around 400 million(in 2011). This is going to increase as they are now connected to the FOX.
Wwe’s has been stagnate and in the declining manner whereas ufc is showing a good inclination.
Wwe has had its worries since the end of Attitude Era. It had high viewers in the period of 1998-2001( wwe at it’s best)..after that it had always been inclined until 2011.
But the fact is even the second time telecasted smackdown show beats the UFC PPV in viewership.

3) Betting revenue --> The UFC fights being real fights, attracts many to bet. Today's fans attitude towards the world sport is not the same it used to be. Gone are the days where fans used to dress in the team colours and cheer for favourite  athletes. Even it's practically not possible for an athlete to even control the sport either. It's money that rules sport and thus money is the main reason for the sports global success and it directs & sets it's path.
Today's culture of money surounding the sport is more than responsible for the sports rise.
Its potential for the others outside the sports to make money is one of the biggest reason that this sport can explode to success. You will find athletes all over and they become the stars of that sport now. The reason being the outside money which had lifted them to such heights.
With the potential for betting being so important to a sports success, WWE has a disadvantage here.

4) Fighting Style ---> UFC is based on mixed martial arts. here fighters come from different backgrounds like jiu-jitsu, wrestling, grappling, wrestling, judo, karate, muay thai, taekwondo and boxing.
The fight is fought in the Octagon. Here the victory is gained either by a knockout or a tapout. When the fight goes the distance then the fight is decided by the judges scorecard.
In WWE its pure wrestling. The fighters have to wrestle inside a four-sided ring to win. Mostly here the fights are won either by pin or submission. There are various kinds of matches like TLC match, first blood match, I quit match where the ways of winning differ accordingly.

5) Other competitors in its sport --> Wwe has a serious competition from TNA..most of it’s elite fighters, hall of famers have shifted to TNA..but still WWE is number 1. Honestly saying TNA is nothing, but it is taking away the core talent from WWE.
UFC on the other hand  has only minor threat from few mma companies like Bellator, Strikeforce(owned by the ufc ppl only), EliteXC
Vince mcmohan recently stated Ufc’s ratings as abysmal. Am sure vince thinks ufc as a serious threat to wwe.

6) Risk Level---> Wrestling is definitely more dangerous and has more number of deaths compared to mixed marial arts. You might be surprised why? UFC are real fights & wrestling is predetermined and fake! but still why??
Fighters are prone to many injuries in wrestling…deaths are cause due to fighting. Steroids is also one of the main reason in fatality. Fighters both in wrestling & mma need skills but performance is an extra factor which is also required in wrestling. Maybe its scripted but the risks taken are real, the pain is real and accidents are also real. Wrestlers life is a tough one than any other ufc fighter. He fights regularly..in ufc it’s not the same scene. No breaks in between! A wrestler can survive fighting in UFC but am sure no UFC fighter wil have the guts to come to wrestle.(Brock Lesnar & Bobby Lashley). What they do, maybe is for entertainment but the pain is serious!!

I guess this hardcore fighting is not gonna stay for top forever. am sure wwe will come back but it might take a while, the return of brock lesnar and rock are signs of hope.
Finally if you ask me which one is better then ----------I would say that both are very different from each other..ufc is real fighting and wwe is pre determined.. It’s like asking what fruit do you like..apple or orange?

WWE revenues for 2012 is touch above $600mn while I couldn't find for UFC albeit in 2008 they earned $275mn. WWE struggled too particularly in the late 90s when they had story lines with sacked WCW wrestlers including SCSA!! Being their ardent fan, they will rise again and hopefully, the F will get in the WWE!
